KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Force patrol killed several insurgents in Lashkar Gah, Helmand province, Oct. 18.

Multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens led security forces to the suspected location of the shadow mayor of Nahr E Seraj, who is also a mid-level Taliban leader who plans and participates in improvised explosive device and small-arms attacks against ANSF and ISAF.

As the security force arrived at the suspected insurgent compound, several armed men were killed when they presented a threat to the ANSF and ISAF patrol.

After securing the compound, Afghan forces conducted a call-out to allow the occupants to exit peacefully. The patrol protected four women and eight children during the operation, as well as detaining several men.
