KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Force patrol killed two insurgents and detained numerous suspected insurgents during an operation in Helmand province Wednesday.

Multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens led security forces to a compound associated with a Taliban facilitator of improvised explosive devices.

After surrounding the compound, the ANSF initiated a call-out to allow occupants to exit peacefully. Having received no reply, Afghan security forces entered the first building and were confronted by two armed men. The men failed to respond to several verbal warnings and were killed.

The joint force continued to clear the compound, calling-out to the inhabitants. Twelve women and 29 children exited various buildings safely and were protected. Eleven men were detained, including one man who attempted to disguise himself as a woman.
