KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan security force, backed by coalition forces, captured a Taliban leader in charge of a cell of fighters who facilitated and emplaced improvised explosive devices along roads travelled by Afghan civilians, during an overnight operation in Khost province Saturday, the International Security Assistance Force confirmed Monday.
Intelligence information led the security force to a madrassa in outside Wurzi in Nadir Shah Kot district to search for the targeted individual. An Afghan-only force used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully, and then cleared and secured the madrassa.
After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained the targeted individual along with several of his associates.
The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the children for the duration of the search.
