KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader who commands a group of fighters involved in improvised explosive device attacks, conducting ambushes and the facilitation of weapons and ammunition, during an overnight operation in Paktika province.
He is the seventh insurgent leader captured or killed in Paktika province this month.
Intelligence reports led the security force to a compound near Ghaybikheyl in Yahya Khel district to search for the targeted individual. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully, and then the security force cleared and secured the area.
After initial questioning at the scene, the security force identified and detained the targeted individual and one of his associates.
Additionally, the assault force observed several armed insurgents moving toward their position. The security force shot and killed several insurgents armed with machine guns and automatic weapons. Additionally, the security force discovered and destroyed multiple automatic weapons, grenades, anti-personnel mines, pressure-plate IEDs, detonation wire and rocket-propelled grenades with launchers.
