KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Force patrol arrested an insurgent leader during an operation in the Muhammad Aghah District of Logar province Nov. 5.
The insurgent leader was arrested on a Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan warrant for allegedly planning and executing numerous direct fire attacks against ANSF and ISAF in northern Logar province. He also allegedly participated in the kidnapping of an Afghan civilian who was tortured and killed in retaliation for another insurgent’s death.
After surrounding the suspected Taliban leader’s compound, the security force attempted a “soft knock” in an attempt to enter peacefully. There was no response. The security force then breached the entrance and entered the compound. After securing all occupants, the targeted Taliban leader identified himself to the patrol.
The security force detained the Taliban leader and two other suspected insurgents and took them into custody for processing and further questioning.
