KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces and soldiers from 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, conducted an air assault into the eastern Pech River Valley in their continued pursuit of militant fighters in the Kunar province Friday.
Acting on information of Taliban activity and fighters in the area, the combined force moved into the Watapur Valley, clearing the region of insurgent fighters as well as searching for weapon caches.
Initial reports indicate three insurgents have been killed.
“The Afghan National Security Forces and Task Force Bastogne are determined that the insurgents operating in the Pech River Valley will not have a place from which to launch their violence and terror,” said U.S. Army Col. Andrew Poppas, Task Force Bastogne Commander. “Operations like this help rid the area of these terrorists and their brutal ideology.”
According to initial reports, no civilians were injured in this operation.
Operations are ongoing.
