KABUL, Afghanistan – The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of a Taliban leader operating in Zurmat district of Paktiya province during an overnight operation in the province Nov. 14.

The targeted individual coordinated and conducted indiscriminate improvised explosive device attacks and facilitated weapons for fighters under his command.

Indiscriminate violence, such as roadside bombs and small arms and indirect fire, continues to harm Afghan civilians, to include at least 150 attacks last month, according to ISAF records.

Intelligence reports led the security force to a compound north of Hosaynkhel in Zurmat district to search for the targeted individual. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the area.

The security force detained the Taliban leader along with several of his associates after questioning at the scene.

The assault force conducted the operation without shots fired and they ensured the safety of the women and children throughout the search.
