Taliban facilitator responsible for assassinations captured

KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition security forces captured a Taliban facilitator of attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition forces in Paktiya province yesterday.

The targeted individual facilitated improvised explosive device ambushes, attacks on development projects and assassinations of Afghan leaders. He was also heavily involved in IED operations using pressure plate, remote control, command wire and hit and run tactics.

Intelligence reports led the security force to a remote compound in Gardez district to search for the facilitator, who also reportedly knows how to repair defective IED's. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the area. The security force identified and detained the facilitator along with several of his associates after initial questioning at the scene.

The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
