KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban leader and several suspected insurgents during a joint security operation in the Nad ‘Ali District of Helmand province yesterday.
The forces peacefully captured the Taliban improvised explosive device leader who is a significant supplier of homemade explosives used in IED attacks in both Nad ‘Ali and neighboring Lashkar Gah Districts.
The now-detained individual held meetings with additional Taliban associates to teach IED employment and facilitation techniques.

Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call all occupants to exit the targeted buildings peacefully before conducting the search. The Afghan and coalition forces detained the terrorist leader after he identified himself as the targeted individual in the operation. The forces detained the additional suspects based on initial questioning at the scene.
