KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces killed two insurgents, including a Taliban leader, during a security operation in Wardak province last night.

Fedahi was a Taliban leader in Sayyidabad District involved in heavy weapons facilitation and direct attacks against coalition forces.

Security forces in eastern Afghanistan are successfully targeting insurgent cells operating in Sayyidabad and Chak-e Wardak Districts. Fedahi is the seventh Taliban leader captured or killed in the districts this month.

The security force followed intelligence tips to a compound in Sayyidabad to look for Fedahi. As the security force cleared and secured the buildings, they encountered two insurgents who threatened the security force. The security force shot and killed them; one was later identified as Fedahi, and the other as a Taliban member during questioning of residents at the scene. The security force also found an automatic weapon and military uniforms at the scene.

The assault force protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
