KABUL, Afghanistan - Deliberate security operations in Khost province resulted in Afghan and coalition forces capturing their 30th Haqqani Network leader since Nov. 1, during an operation in the province last night.
Afghan and coalition forces have made it a top priority to neutralize the Haqqani threat in eastern Afghanistan, conducting almost daily operations against their leadership.
Intelligence tips led the security force to a compound in Terayzai District to search for the leader who conducts improvised explosive device attacks and ambushes targeting Afghan and coalition forces operating in the province.
Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the targeted compound peacefully before the joint force cleared and secured the buildings. Initial questioning at the scene helped identify the leader, who was detained by the security force. The security force also found multiple grenades at the scene.
The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
