KABUL, Afghanistan – Soldiers from the Afghan National Army’s 1st Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 205th Corps and members of the Afghan National Police participated in tactical weapons training with U.S. Navy SEALs earlier this month in the Now Bahar District, Zabul province.
Instructors focused the training on improving the overall safety and shooting accuracy of the Afghan Army and Police as the partnership continues to develop the capabilities of the Afghan National Security Forces for current and future operations with coalition forces.
Due to a large influx in new recruits, the national police training was focused primarily on basic shooting drills said a SEAL instructor. Their training consisted of proper weapons use and short-range shooting exercises that are designed to improve weapons safety.
The Afghan National Security forces’ training was based on previous training exercises. It evolved from basic weapons fundamentals to include shooting drills while under duress and in stressful situations.
“The Afghan National Army soldiers have responded to the training with increased enthusiasm and have showed a mastery of the basic skills,” said a SEAL instructor. “Future range exercises will increase the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police proficiency, the understanding of weapons safety as well as the self training capability.”
