KABUL, Afghanistan – A joint Afghan national security and International Security Assistance Force vehicle interdiction mission resulted in the discovery of a sizeable amount of narcotics in Ghorak District, Kandahar province, Dec. 14.
Multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens led the joint patrol to a series of smuggling routes. During the operation, the security force stopped several vehicles, one of which contained 1,763 pounds of opium.
One man was detained during the operation and taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning.
The narcotics were safely destroyed on site.
