KABUL, Afghanistan – Coalition forces conducted a precision air strike in Bala Murghab district in Badghis province, killing a senior Taliban leader Dec. 17.

Mullah Tor Jan was a Quetta Shura-appointed inspector for the Taliban Commission in the district. Tor Jan was also known as a Taliban leader who spent time with the deputy shadow governor of Badghis province.

Intelligence sources allowed an Afghan and coalition force to track an armed individual to a remote cave complex. Using a loudspeaker the security force called for the individual to exit peacefully. The suspected insurgent shot at the force leading to a progressive, escalated response that ended with a precision air strike on the cave complex to eliminate the threat.
