KABUL, Afghanistan – More than 20 insurgents were killed, including several Taliban sub-leaders, by International Security Assistance Forces during a clearing operation in eastern Afghanistan today.
An ISAF patrol was engaged with small-arms fire by numerous insurgents in Tagab District, Kapisa province. Coalition forces returned fire and called for air support. After gaining positive identification, an air weapons team conducted joint fire with ground forces, killing numerous insurgents, including several Taliban commanders responsible for recent attacks against Afghan National Security and coalition forces in the area.
The operation is still ongoing in Tagab district, therefore coalition forces were unable to conduct a complete assessment of the area following the engagements. Initial reports indicate no civilian casualties or damages resulted from this operation.
