KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces detained another Taliban leader during an operation in Kandahar province yesterday targeting suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device networks.
The forces detained the targeted leader and an additional suspect in the Panjwa'i District based on the individual's association with an SVBIED attack in Sangsar Dec. 12.
The now-detained insurgent was directly involved in organizing and planning terrorist activities in the Zharay, Dand and Panjwa'i Districts.
Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call all occupants to exit the targeted buildings peacefully before conducting a search. The Afghan and coalition forces detained the Taliban leader and an additional suspect based on questioning at the scene.
Joint security teams have detained nearly 30 terrorist leaders, associates and suspects in Kandahar since Dec. 1.
Forces conducted the operation in the hours of darkness to minimize the risk to local citizens. No women or children were injured or detained during this operation.
The security forces conducted the operation without firing their weapons.
