KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces captured a Haqqani improvised explosive device facilitator along with two suspected insurgents during a security operation in Khost province Dec. 18.
Intelligence reports indicate the Haqqani facilitator was responsible for planning and executing IED attacks against Afghan National Army forces and facilitates movement of material from Pakistan into the province. Also, he is connected with a roadside bomb attack against ANA soldiers earlier this month.
The security force followed intelligence tips to a compound in Khost district to search for the leader. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the building. After the area was secure, the security force conducted initial questioning at the scene before detaining the Haqqani leader and two suspected insurgents.
The joint security team conducted the operation in the hours of darkness to minimize the risk to local citizens. No women or children were injured or detained during this operation.
The security forces conducted the operation without firing their weapons.
