KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces continued to disrupt terrorist actions and apply pressure on Taliban networks during security operations in Zabul and Paktiya provinces yesterday.
In Zabul province, Afghan and coalition forces conducted a security operation targeting a Taliban leader involved in extensive harassment of local citizens detaining numerous suspects.
The team followed leads from intelligence reports to a series of compounds in the Tarnek wa Jaldak District. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call all occupants to exit the targeted buildings peacefully before conducting a search. The Afghan and coalition forces detained more than 10 suspects, including several who attempted to flee, based on initial questioning at the scene.
During a second operation, Afghan and coalition forces detained several suspected insurgents as they targeted a Taliban improvised explosive device facilitator in Paktiya province.
Intelligence reports indicate the Taliban facilitator is responsible for recruiting, facilitating, planning and executing IED operations in Paktiya and Logar provinces as well as planning kidnappings for Taliban interests.
The security force followed intelligence tips to a compound in Ahmadabad district to search for the leader. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the building. After the area was secure, the security force conducted initial questioning at the scene before detaining the individuals.
No women or children were injured or detained during this operation. The security forces conducted the operation without firing their weapons
