GALVESTON, Texas -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a contract Dec. 14, 2010, to Manson Construction Company, in the amount of $4,316,020 to dredge the Freeport entrance and jetty channels and lower turning basin in Brazoria County, Texas.
The contractor is required to use a hopper dredge in order to remove an estimated two million cubic yards of shoal material from the channels.
“The corps is committed to keeping waterways open for navigation, which allows for the safe and expeditious accommodation of commercial vessels,” said Karl Brown, a project operations manager with the Galveston District, USACE. “The Freeport Harbor is particularly important with its large imports of petrochemicals that are used across the U.S., which contributes to the strength of the nation.”
Work is scheduled to begin Dec. 23 and should be completed within 75 to 80 days.
