KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces detained several suspected insurgents in Kunduz province as they targeted a Taliban leader during a joint security operation yesterday.
Recently promoted to the role of area attack leader for Gor Tapa District, the targeted insurgent makes improvised explosive devices and suicide vests, leads a group of Taliban fighters and employs anti-aircraft weapons against Afghan and coalition forces. He also works closely with Taliban shadow governors in the area planning attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

The force then continued to the targeted compound where Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint force cleared and secured the buildings.
Afghan and coalition forces detained the suspected insurgents based on initial questioning at the scene.
No women or children were injured or detained during this operation.
