KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces detained a Haqqani Network facilitator who operates in the Terayzai District along with several other suspected insurgents during a security operation in Khost province yesterday.
The detained Haqqani Network facilitator was responsible for the movement of improvised explosive device materials in addition to coordinating IED emplacement within the province. He was associated with several other Haqqani Network facilitators in the area. Recent reporting indicates he coordinated and planned an attack against an Afghan school with a suicide vehicle-borne IED.
The security force followed intelligence tips to the potential compound of the insurgent. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the building. After the area was secure, the security force conducted initial questioning at the scene before detaining the targeted insurgent and additional suspected insurgents.
No women or children were injured or detained during this operation.
