KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces detained a Haqqani Network leader who operates in the Sabari District, along with several other suspected insurgents during a security operation in Khost province yesterday.
The detained Haqqani Network leader was responsible for coordinating attacks against coalition forces and supplies Haqqani fighters with weapons, ammunition and equipment. He works closely with numerous other Sabari-based Haqqani Network operatives.
The security force followed intelligence tips to the suspected compound of the Haqqani leader. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the building.
After the area was secured, the security force conducted initial questioning at the scene before detaining the targeted leader and additional suspected insurgents. The security force found a machine gun with a large amount of ammunition, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher with rounds and multiple AK-47s.
No women or children were injured or detained during this operation
