KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban facilitator and improvised explosive device expert during a security operation in Logar province yesterday.

The detained Taliban facilitator was responsible for operations involving IED attacks and ambushes against Afghan National Army and coalition forces within the Baraki Barak District. He has direct contact with Taliban leaders in the province.

The security force followed intelligence tips to the targeted compound of the Taliban facilitator in Baraki Barak District. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the security force cleared and secured the building.

After the area was secure, the security force conducted initial questioning at the scene before detaining the targeted Taliban facilitator. During questioning the detained facilitator led the security force to a second compound where they detained a suspected insurgent involved in weapons facilitation.

No women or children were injured or detained during this operation.
