KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces netted several weapons, improvised explosive device making components and drug caches during separate clearing operations in eastern and southern Afghanistan today.
In Kandahar province, an Afghan National Security and ISAF patrol found a weapons and IED making components cache in Kandahar district. The cache consisted of one anti-tank mine, four AK47s, several main charges, one rocket-propelled grenade, 16 full AK47 magazines, six Russian hand grenades, 750 7.62 mm rounds, two tactical vests and three pressure plates.
In Uruzgan and Helmand provinces, combined forces found three weapons and drugs caches in Tarin Kot, Chorah and Garm Ser Districts. The caches consisted of one AK47, one RPG round, one homemade detonator, two Chinese fuses, one 81 mm mortar shell filled with gun powder, two jugs filled with 20 pounds (9 kilograms) of homemade explosive, five pressure plates, four radio-command devices and 180 pounds (81kg) of opium.
Also today, an ISAF patrol found a large weapons cache in Shaykh’Ali District, Parwan province during a separate clearing operation. The cache consisted of 29 82 mm recoilless rifle rounds, 33 82 mm mortar rounds, 14 RPG warheads, 22 RPGs, one mortar system.
Initial reports indicate no civilians were injured and no damage was reported during the clearing operations. The weapons, drugs and explosives from all provinces were confiscated and will be destroyed.
