CAMP MIKE SPANN, Afghanistan -- The 5th zone Afghanistan National Border Police received 26 up-armored, M114 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, Jan. 5, at Camp Shaheen, Balkh province in northern Afghanistan.
The vehicles issued will increase the Afghan National Border Police’s capability to provide security throughout the local area.
The soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division’s 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion are currently developing a five-day HMMWV training course to familiarize members of the ANBP with the vehicles and to assist in disbursing them to the local ANBP Kandaks.
The goal of this project is to ensure members of the 5th Zone ANBP have the ability to rapidly deploy, decisively engage, and the capabilities needed to survive any engagement against the insurgency in Northern Afghanistan.
More than 45 vehicles have been fielded within the past six months.
