    Insurgent rounds kill two Afghan children, wound four in Helmand

    HELMAND, Afghanistan – Indirect fire rounds, employed by insurgents, impacted near a Shura in Nahr-e Saraj District, Helmand province, Jan. 23, killing two Afghan children and wounding four.

    U.S. special forces, in attendance for the weekly shura, coordinated for the immediate evacuation of the injured children.

    Five children were transported by helicopter to Bastion Role III hospital; however, one died of her wounds upon arrival.

    As three of the children undergo surgery for their wounds, coalition forces are assisting in transporting family members to the hospital.
