    KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban attack leader, along with several suspected insurgents during an operation in Kandahar City, Kandahar province yesterday.

    The detained militant was a Kandahar City-based Taliban leader who had recently been in Nad ‘Ali district, Helmand province; Spin Bolak district, Kandahar province; Chaman, Pakistan. He also was coordinating attacks in Kabul City against Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan officials and coalition forces.

    Intelligence reports led the security force to the targeted compound in the city, where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. The Taliban leader along with the suspected insurgents was detained for involvement in insurgent activity after initial questioning at the scene.

    Several insurgents were detained during an Afghan National Army and ISAF operation in Tarnek wa Jaldak district, Zabul province. Coalition forces also discovered one gas tank, two bags of hashish seeds and .6 pounds (300 grams) of pure hashish.

    In Arghandab district, Kandahar province, an Afghan National Police patrol found one jug of homemade explosives and one 155 mm round.
    East

    Afghan and coalition forces detained a Haqqani Network facilitator along with one suspected insurgent during an operation in Jaji Maidan district, Khost province yesterday.

    The facilitator operated in Sabari and Khost districts where he was responsible for supplying, moving and distributing Haqqani Network insurgents in the area who conduct improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. Intelligence reports led the security force to the targeted compound in Jaji Maidan district, where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit out of the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. The Haqqani Network facilitator and one suspected insurgent was detained based on initial questioning at the scene.

    Also in eastern Afghanistan, Afghan and coalition forces targeted a Taliban leader detaining one suspected insurgent during a security operation in Sayyidabad district, Wardak province yesterday.

    The leader is responsible for kidnappings, weapons facilitation and attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He has been active in purchasing weapons and explosives for improvised explosive devices according to recent reporting. Security forces followed leads to a targeted location in the district, where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit out of the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. One suspected insurgent was detained based on initial questioning at the scene.

    In Ghazni province yesterday, Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban facilitator along with one suspected insurgent during an operation in Ghazni district

    The facilitator was responsible for selling weapons to other Taliban insurgents in the area. He was associated with other arms dealers and Taliban in the local area. He purchased ammunition and grenades from an associate for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, according to recent reporting.

    Intelligence reports led the security force to the targeted compound in the district, where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit out of the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. The facilitator identified himself to the security force as the targeted insurgent and was detained. One additional suspected insurgent was detained based on initial questioning at the scene.

    With the capture of the Taliban facilitator yesterday, Afghan and coalition forces have detained more than 25 Taliban and Haqqani Network leaders and facilitators along with more than 35 suspected insurgents who operated in Regional Command East since the beginning of February.
