KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces detained a Taliban leader during an operation in Kandahar District, Kandahar province, yesterday.
The Taliban leader was based in Kandahar province where he was responsible for the coordination of attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, and Kandahar Airfield. He was associated with a senior Taliban leader and suicide bomber facilitator as well as the Daman Taliban District shadow governor.
Intelligence reports led the security force to the targeted compound in the district, where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. The targeted Taliban leader was detained after initial questioning at the scene for his involvement in insurgent activity.
