KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces targeted a Taliban leader, detaining several suspected insurgents during security operations in Baghlan-e Jadid District, Baghlan province, yesterday.
The leader is the Baghlan-e Jadid senior Taliban leader. He independently plans operations, manages the network, and reports to senior Taliban leaders.
Recently, he has been planning suicide attacks for the upcoming holidays. He is also involved in improvised explosive device IED attacks.
Intelligence reports led the security force to the targeted compound where they called for the residents to exit the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. Several suspected insurgents were detained after initial questioning at the scene.
Security forces recovered one machine gun, 300-400 rounds of ammunition, one pistol and one rocket-propelled grenade launcher.

Afghan and coalition security forces captured a Taliban facilitator, detaining several suspected insurgents during security operations in Kandahar District, Kandahar province, yesterday.
The facilitator frequently travelled around the region, transporting weapons back to Kandahar City. Last August, he helped lead a group of insurgents in an IED attack in the city of Char Bagh, where a city official was killed.
The security force advanced towards the targeted vehicles where they had the occupants peacefully exit them before conducting a search. The facilitator and several suspected insurgents were detained after initial questioning.
In Reg-e Khan District, Helmand province, yesterday, coalition forces killed numerous insurgents during operations.
Coalition forces observed insurgents, established positive identification, requested close air support and engaged the enemy position, killing numerous insurgents.
There were no civilian casualties or collateral damage reported during this operation.
East
Afghan and coalition security forces captured a Taliban facilitator during security operations in Chaparhar District, Nangarhar province, yesterday.
The facilitator was an IED expert and trainer. He instructed a training course involving the manufacturing and emplacing of IEDs.
The security force advanced to the targeted compound where they called for the residents to exit the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. The Taliban facilitator was detained after initial questioning at the scene.
In Bak District, Khost province, yesterday, coalition forces detained several insurgents and discovered a weapons cache.
The cache consisted of one machine gun with rounds, seven 82 mm rounds, three AK-47s, two chest racks, one helmet and various chargers.
All weapons were or will be destroyed by security forces.
