    ISAF Joint Command morning operational update

    KABUL, Afghanistan – A combined Afghan and coalition force detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a Hezb-E Islami Gulbuddin leader in Terayzai District, Khost province, yesterday.

    The targeted leader operates in Sabari district and is responsible for commanding and controlling approximately 50 Hezb-E Islami Gulbuddin fighters and facilitators who conduct attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition security forces in the area.

    Based on intelligence reports, the security force targeted a suspected insurgent compound in the district. The security force secured the area and called for all occupants to exit the building peacefully. After initial questioning, the suspected insurgents were detained. Also three AK-47s, one chest rack and multiple magazines were confiscated.

    There were no shots fired and no civilians were harmed in the operation.

    South

    A combined Afghan and coalition force conducted a clearing operation in Shah Joy District, Zabul province, yesterday. The security force commenced a deliberate clearing of a suspected Taliban safe haven in which attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in the district are facilitated from. The area has been historically associated with cross-district Taliban leaders and facilitators.

    The security force targeted the suspected safe haven based on multiple intelligence sources. During the clearing operation, joint forces detained several suspected insurgents for further questioning. No civilians were harmed in the operation.

    A combined Afghan and coalition forces captured a Taliban facilitator and detained two suspected Taliban insurgents during an operation in Zharay District, Kandahar province, yesterday. The Taliban facilitator was responsible for acquiring and distributing ammunition, explosive material and other weapons throughout Zharay.

    Intelligence reports led the security force to the targeted compound in the city and Afghan forces secured the area peacefully, ensuring the safety of all civilians. After questioning residents, the security force identified and detained the Taliban facilitator. Two additional suspected Taliban insurgents were detained for further questioning. Security forces also found 1,000 pounds (2,200 kilograms) of marijuana and 500 pounds (227 kgs) of marijuana seeds on the premises. All drugs were destroyed. The security team completed the operation without firing their weapons.

    East

    A combined Afghan and coalition force captured a Haqqani Network facilitator in Terayzai District, Khost province, yesterday. The facilitator was responsible for transferring weapons and explosives in preparation for attacks. He has coordinated with multiple Haqqani insurgents in order to conduct improvised explosive device and complex attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition forces.

    Based on multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens, the security force peacefully secured and cleared a targeted a compound in the district. After initial questioning, the security force identified and detained the facilitator and two suspected insurgents. Two AK-47s and one chest rack were also found.

    In Logar province, a combined Afghan and coalition force targeted a Taliban facilitator in Baraki Barak district, yesterday. The facilitator is involved in the acquisition and distribution of weapons and ammunition to insurgents throughout the area.

    The security force was alerted to a compound in the district based on multiple intelligence reports. The force isolated the compound and called for all occupants to exit peacefully. The force ensured the safety of all women and children before commencing the search. After initial questioning, two suspected Taliban insurgents were detained. An AK-47 and large amount of ammunition were also found during the search. No civilians were harmed in the operation.
