    KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Force and International Security Assistance Forces discovered a large weapons cache during a clearing operation in eastern Afghanistan, today.

    In Kapisa province, a combined patrol found a weapon and improvised explosive device-components cache in Mahmud-e Raqi District. The cache consisted of one pistol, one AK-47, 580 7.62 mm rounds, three full AK-47 magazines, one box of 12.7 mm rounds, 80 82 mm mortar rounds, one anti-personnel mine, homemade explosives, one chest rack, one Afghan National Army uniform and numerous IED-making components.

    The weapons were confiscated and will be destroyed.

    In other ISAF news throughout Afghanistan:

    South

    In Helmand province, an ISAF patrol spotted several armed insurgents in Sangin District, today. Coalition forces tracked the insurgents’ movement and called for air support. After establishing positive identification, the air weapons team engaged the enemy position killing one insurgent and forcing the others to flee.

    In Helmand and Kandahar provinces, during separate clearing operations, Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF patrols found large weapons and improvised explosive device-making components caches in Reg-e Khan Neshin, Arghandab and Spin Boldak Districts, today.

    The caches consisted of five anti-personnel mines, 175 pounds (80 kilograms) of homemade explosives, three pressure plates, 23 battery packs, four radios, 30 cell phones, one chest rack and several IED-making electrical components. Afghan National Security Forces also detained two suspected insurgents related to the weapons cache in Spin Boldak.

    The weapons and IED-making components from all the finds caches were confiscated and have been or will be destroyed.
