KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan national security and International Security Assistance Forces killed several insurgents and discovered a weapons cache during a clearing operation in eastern Afghanistan, April 2.
In Uruzgan province, an ANSF and ISAF patrol was engaged with small-arms fire by numerous insurgents in Deh Rawud District. The combined security forces returned fire and called for air support. After gaining positive identification, the air weapons team engaged the enemy position, killing several insurgents.
During the combined operation, the combined forces also detained two individuals that were taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning.
After clearing the enemy location, the combined security forces confiscated a weapons cache consisting of one shotgun, three AK-47s, nine full AK-47 magazines, one rocket-propelled grenade launcher, five RPG rounds, 17 RPG motors, one 155 mm artillery shell, two grenades, one anti-tank mine and two chest racks. The weapons cache was safely destroyed on site.

Combined Afghan and International Security Forces conducting a clearing operation killed one insurgent and discovered a weapons cache in Shah Joy District, Zabul province April 2. During the operation, the combined security forces received small-arms fire from the compound being searched, they returned fire killing one insurgent. A weapon cache was discovered during the clearing operation consisting of one rocket propelled grenade launcher, four RPG rounds with boosters, two AK-47s, one radio, one hand grenade, one improvised explosive device, two chest racks with AK-47 magazines, various IED making materials and various personal military equipment.
East
Coalition forces killed several insurgents in Marawarah District, Kunar province April 3. After gaining positive identification, a coalition forces dismounted patrol requested close air support upon a group of insurgents getting in position to attack coalition forces. Close air support engaged the group of insurgents, killing them.
In Kunar province, an ISAF air weapons team supporting ground forces observed numerous armed insurgents in Sar Kani District, April 2. After establishing positive identification, the air weapons team engaged the enemy position killing the insurgents.
In Bamyan province, an Afghan citizen turned in a weapons cache consisting of ten high-explosive rockets, seven RPG charges, eight grenades and four 82 mm projectiles, today.
A coalition patrol operating in Ghazni District, Ghazni province April 3, discovered a chemical and weapons cache that included approximately 660-880 pounds of explosive chemicals, 15 mines, three grenades and assorted ammunition.
The chemicals and weapons have been or will be destroyed by the security forces.
