KABUL, Afghanistan – A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during a raid in Zharay district, Kandahar province, yesterday.
The leader was responsible for procuring weapons, setting up attacks and recruiting new fighters. He maintained close connections with several Pakistan based Taliban leaders and key associates.
The combined force targeted an area suspected of insurgent activity, based on multiple intelligence reports. Security forces isolated the compound before calling all occupants to exit peacefully. After ensuring the safety of all women and children, the security force commenced their search. The Taliban leader was identified and detained after initial questioning.

An Afghan and coalition force captured a Taliban facilitator during a security operation in Shah Joy district, Zabul province, yesterday. The facilitator was responsible for planning and conducting improvised explosive devices along Highway 1, specifically targeting Afghan government officials and coalition forces.
Based on multiple intelligence sources, the combined force tracked the facilitator to a compound in Shah Joy. The security force secured and cleared the compound without incident. After initial questioning, the Taliban facilitator was identified and detained.

Afghan and coalition forces killed and detained several insurgents during an operation in Sar Kani district, Kunar province, yesterday.
The combined force received small-arms fire from insurgents during a clearing operation in the district. After positive identification, the combined force returned fire, killing and wounding several insurgents. Also more than 10 suspected insurgents were detained by the Afghan National Army during the operation.
An Afghan and coalition force captured a Haqqani Network facilitator during a raid in Sabari district, Khost province, yesterday. The facilitator was responsible for acquiring mortars and various other weapons for attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.
Intelligence reports led the security force to the insurgents suspected location in the district. After isolating the compound, joint security forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully. After ensuring the safety of all women and children, the security force identified and detained the Haqqani facilitator. Two additional suspected insurgents were detained for further questioning. Joint security forces also found small arms and ammunition during the search.
In Logar province, a combined Afghan and coalition force captured a Taliban facilitator during a security operation in Baraki Barak district, yesterday. The insurgent was associated with the facilitation and production of explosive devices.
Based on intelligence sources, the combined force targeted a compound associates with the facilitator. After securing and clearing the area, the force identified the facilitator along with two suspected insurgents. The security force ensured the safety of all women and children throughout the operation.
Also in Logar, an Afghan and coalition force detained several suspected insurgents while in search of a Taliban leader during a security operation in Charkh district, yesterday. The leader is responsible for multiple attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition forces in Charkh and Baraki Barak districts. He works under the senior Taliban leader in the province, who is responsible for the kidnapping and murder of two coalition personnel last summer.
The joint security forces targeted multiple compounds in the district, based on multiple intelligence reports. The force detained several suspected insurgents for further questioning. No civilians were harmed during this operation.
Afghan and coalition forces confirmed the capture of a Haqqani facilitator during a security operation in Orgun district, Paktika province, April 1. The facilitator maintains direct contact with multiple Pakistan based Haqqani leaders to organize Haqqani network cells and plan attacks. He is also responsible for facilitating safe passage for Pakistan based insurgents into Afghanistan.
