KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces killed several insurgents during a combined patrol in Zharay district, Kandahar province, April 18.
The combined patrol received small-arms fire from a compound. After establishing positive identification, the combined patrol requested close-air support and engaged the enemy position, killing several insurgents. No civilian casualties were reported during this operation.

Afghan and coalition forces discovered a weapons cache in Zharay district, Kandahar province, April 19, consisting of 17 anti-tank mines, eight anti-personnel mines and various small-arms rounds.
In Marjeh district, Helmand province, Afghan and coalition forces found 1,500 7.62 mm rounds.
In Reg-e Khan Neshin district, Helmand province, coalition forces discovered an improvised explosive device manufacturing facility and a weapons and drugs cache, April 19.
The cache consisted of 115 pounds (52 kilograms) of homemade explosives, 62 blasting caps, two 107 mm rockets, four propane tanks, four pressure plates, three improvised explosive devices, one grenade, four cordless remotes, four bags of medical supplies, one circuit board, eight AK-47 magazines, 25 pounds (11 kgs) of opium, 15 pounds (7 kgs) of ammonium nitrate, five pounds (2 kgs) of aluminium powder, three small bags of fertilizer, one jar with packets of unknown drugs, various digging tools, loose ammunition and several IED-making components.
East
Coalition forces conducting operations in Kahmand district, Bamyan province, April 19, discovered a weapons cache consisting of one 85 mm rocket, two 107 mm rockets, 208 12.7 mm rounds, four 80 mm grenades, 88 hand grenades and 74 fuses.
In Sarobi district, Kabul province, April 19, coalition forces found 31 fuses, nine mines, eight 75 mm shells and 24 82 mm shells.
In Gardez district, Paktiya province, April 19, coalition forces found 22 anti-tank mines, 17 rocket-propelled grenades and nine grenades.
In Khas Kunar district, Kunar province, Afghan and coalition forces discovered multiple weapon caches during clearing operations in Shalay Valley, April 19.
The caches included eight AK-47 assault rifles, 33 bolt-action rifles, approximately 3,000 rounds of ammunition, 20 magazines, four fighting vests and one pistol.
All weapons and drugs have or will be destroyed by security forces.
