KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition security forces captured a Taliban facilitator and five of his associates during a security operation in Qadis District, Badghis province yesterday.

The Taliban facilitator directs low to mid level fighters in the district who attack village stability operation locations and conduct acts of intimidation against village elders. Funding from his narcotics trade and proxy services is funnelled into supporting Taliban cells for attacks.

After extensive intelligence gathering, the combined security force searched for the Taliban facilitator at a compound in the district.

Beginning their search, the force isolated the area and called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully. All occupants complied with the request, allowing the force to secure the safety of all women and children.

During the search the insurgent facilitator identified himself to the security force, resulting in his detention. The force also detained five suspected insurgents for further questioning.

“He was easily the single largest threat to Afghan local police in the district, causing numerous security issues.” said U.S. Marine Corps Col. Scott Alley, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. “Capturing this terrorist who routinely sought to intimidate and threaten those officially charged to protect the people marks a significant step in establishing peace and security for the people of Qadis.”
