ILOPANGO, El Salvador — With the first six events completed at this year’s Fuerzas Comando 2011, the team from Ecuador jumps ahead after winning the night assault shooting event.

Fuerzas Comando, established in 2004, is a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored special operations skills competition and senior-leader seminar which is conducted annually in Central and South America and the Caribbean.

During the night assault shooting event, competitors used their handgun and a handheld flashlight as they tried to shoot two rounds of ammunition into seven targets at varying distances of five, seven and 15 meters within a 25-second interval.

El Salvador, the host nation team, currently sits in second place with their partners the Unites States falling to tenth place.

Today, brings the first day of the forced road march, snaps and movers sniper event, critical tasks and the sniper night shooting event.

The week-long competition will conclude on June 23 with a ceremony where this year’s winning team will be announced.
