KABUL, Afghanistan – A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed several insurgents during a search for a Taliban leader in Archi District, Kunduz province, yesterday.
The leader directs the Archi District attack network and plans and executes attacks against Afghan government officials and Afghan security forces.
During the search, the Afghan-led security force noticed several individuals, armed with AK-47 rifles, maneuvering in the area. The force pursued the individuals, resulting in an engagement which killed several insurgents. The force discovered a grenade launcher and several grenades on the deceased insurgents.

In Panjwa’i District, Kandahar province, a security force captured a Taliban facilitator and one associate during a security operation yesterday. The facilitator made roadside bombs for attacks in the district.
An Afghan-led security force captured another Taliban facilitator yesterday in Dand District, Kandahar province. He was responsible for purchasing and delivering weapons and ammunition in Kandahar City.
In Helmand province, a combined security force detained two suspected insurgents during a search for a Taliban leader yesterday in Now Zad District. The leader is the Taliban appointed governing official for operations in Washer District. He is involved in attack planning and weapons facilitation throughout the district.
East
In Sherzad District, Nangarhar province, a combined Afghan and coalition force conducted a security operation yesterday resulting in one insurgent killed and one suspected insurgent detained. The target of the operation was the Taliban appointed governing official for operations in western Nangarhar.
The Afghan-led security force was searching for a Taliban leader when they noticed several armed insurgents fleeing the area. While trying to contain the individuals, an engagement followed, resulting in one insurgent killed. Additionally, one individual was detained at a separate location where the force found approximately 70 pounds (32 kgs) of explosives.
In Baraki Barak District, Logar province, a combined security force detained one individual with suspected ties to the Taliban yesterday. The force was searching for a Taliban leader responsible for several attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.
A Haqqani network leader and two associates were captured in Sabari District, Khost province, during a security operation yesterday. The leader facilitated suicide bombers and stored weapons and explosives at his residence for subordinate fighters.
During another search in Sabari District, an Afghan-led force detained two suspected insurgents while searching for a Haqqani facilitator. The facilitator is responsible for constructing, moving and emplacing roadside bombs in the district.
A combined security force detained two suspected insurgents in Ghazni district, Ghazni province during a security search yesterday for a Taliban leader. The leader is responsible for conducting attacks against Afghan security forces.
West
In Shindand District, Herat province, a coalition force patrol discovered a weapons cache yesterday. The cache consisted of 23 rocket boosters, one 80 mm rocket warhead, three rockets, seven launch charges, 20 grenades, 50 sub munitions and 2 pounds (1 kg) of TNT. The weapons were seized by the security force.
