KABUL, Afghanistan – During a search in Muhammad Aghah District, Logar province, a coalition patrol discovered and later destroyed a large weapons cache yesterday.
The cache consisted of several mortar rounds, a rifle, two rocket propelled grenades, one directional formed charge, 600 heavy machine gun rounds, one light machine gun, 400 feet of detonation cord, fuses, blasting caps, batteries, up to 500 pounds (227 kilograms) of ammonium nitrate, two initiation devices and seven grenades.

An Afghan-led security force detained a Taliban leader and one of his associates during a search in Marjah District, Helmand province, yesterday. The leader was responsible for roadside bomb attacks and distributing heavy weapons for Taliban operatives in the district.
In Zabul province, an Afghan-led security force captured a Taliban leader during an overnight operation in Qalat District yesterday. The facilitator was responsible for constructing and placing roadside bombs.
In Dand District, Kandahar province, an Afghan-led security force detained a Taliban leader and one of his associates yesterday. The leader was responsible for roadside bomb attacks against Afghan security forces.
Also in Kandahar, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained several insurgents in Spin Boldak district, yesterday. One of the insurgents was identified as a key member of a cell responsible for improvised explosive device attacks.

In Sayyidabad District, Wardak province, a coalition patrol detained several suspected insurgents yesterday. One of the insurgents was responsible for improvised explosive device attacks and distributing weapons to insurgents in the area.
