KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan-led combined security force detained numerous suspected insurgents and confiscated several weapons while searching for a Haqqani leader in Terayzai District, Khost province, yesterday.
The confiscated weapons included multiple grenades, an AK-47 rifle with several magazines, a rifle and a chest rack.
The Haqqani leader is responsible for coordinating indirect and direct fire attacks against the Afghan National Army.

North
In Bangi District, Takhar province, an Afghan-led security force detained one suspected insurgent while searching for an Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan leader, yesterday. The leader directs insurgents and acts as a liaison to the Taliban network, insurgent leaders in Pakistan, and IMU contacts in Afghanistan and Iran.
An Afghan-led security force detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a Taliban leader in Chimtal District, Balkh province, yesterday. The targeted leader is a logistics officer responsible for obtaining supplies and collecting taxes to fund Taliban operations in western Balkh province.
South
In Panjwa’i District, Kandahar province, an Afghan-led security force detained several suspected insurgents yesterday while searching for a Taliban leader. The leader is responsible for roadside bomb attacks and movement of roadside bomb materials in eastern Panjwa’i.
Also in Panjwa’i, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained one suspected insurgent while conducting a clearance operation.
During a security operation in Shah Joy District, Zabul province, an Afghan-led security force captured a Taliban leader and two suspected insurgents, yesterday. The leader coordinates attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.
In Nahr-e Saraj District, Helmand province, an Afghan-led security force detained several suspected insurgents yesterday while searching for a Taliban leader. The Taliban leader directs attacks in Nahr-e Saraj, and also arranges shelter and distribution of food, equipment, and guidance to Taliban fighters.
Also in the South, a coalition patrol discovered a weapons cache in Kandahar District, Kandahar province, today. The cache consisted of 103 mortar rounds, which were seized and destroyed.
East
An Afghan-led security force detained two suspected insurgents while searching for a Taliban facilitator in Zurmat District, Paktiya province, yesterday. The leader provides guidance to insurgents in Mata Khan district, Paktika province.
In Sabari District, Khost province, an Afghan-led security force detained a Haqqani Network leader and two of his associates during an overnight operation. The Haqqani leader coordinated roadside bomb and direct fire attacks against the Afghan National Army.
Finally, International Security Assistance Force officials confirmed the death of Khan Wali, a Taliban leader who operated in Kuz Kunar District, Nangarhar province. Wali was the target of an operation on Sunday morning that killed more than 10 insurgents. He was responsible for leading fighters in attacks against Afghan government officials and security forces.
