    KABUL, Afghanistan – During a security operation in Qush Tepa District, Jowzjan province, yesterday, an Afghan-led security force killed two insurgents.

    The security force conducted the operation to disrupt Taliban activity in the district, and followed intelligence leads to locate several insurgents maneuvering in the area.

    While the force pursued the individuals, one of them attempted to engage the force with his AK-47 assault rifle. The security returned fire, killing the individual. A second insurgent was also killed after he displayed hostile intent toward the force.

    Following the operation, the force confiscated a machine gun, an AK-47 assault rifle, grenades and a chest rack off.

    North

    An Afghan-led security force killed one insurgent and detained one suspected insurgent during a security operation targeting a Taliban leader in Qal’ah-ye Zal District, Kunduz province, yesterday.

    The targeted leader is responsible for planning, coordinating and conducting attacks throughout the Imam Sahib District. The primary targets of his attacks are Afghan government officials and Afghan National Security Forces.

    During the operation, the security force encountered one insurgent, armed with a pistol. The individual presented a threat to the force. The force fired at the man, killing him. The security force, also, detained one individual with close ties to the targeted leader.

    South

    In Shah Joy District, Zabul province, an Afghan and coalition combined security force captured a Taliban leader and several of his associates.

    The leader was involved in conducting roadside bomb attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces. He also moves roadside bomb material along Highway one.


    An Afghan-led security force captured a Taliban facilitator and two of his associates during a security operation in Zharay District, Kandahar province, yesterday. The detained facilitator was responsible for constructing and emplacing roadside bombs throughout the district.

    In Ghorak District, Kandahar province, an Afghan-led security force detained two suspected insurgents during a security operation, yesterday. The purpose of the operation was to capture a Taliban facilitator responsible for providing a safe haven for Taliban leadership throughout Ghorak and Sangin districts.

    East

    An Afghan and coalition combined security force detained numerous suspected insurgents while searching for two Hezb-e Islami Gulbuddin leaders in Nerkh District, Wardak province, yesterday. The leaders operate together in the province, directing 20 to 25 fighters in attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.

    In Ab Band District, Ghazni province, an Afghan-led security force detained two suspected insurgents during a security operation targeting an Islamic Movement Uzbekistan facilitator, yesterday. The facilitator collaborates with fighters from both local Taliban members and senior leaders of the IMU.


    Also in Ghazni province, Giro District, a combined Afghan and coalition patrol discovered a weapons cache during an operation yesterday.

    The operation secured 220 12.7mm rounds of ammunition and improvised explosive device components. The ammunition was safely destroyed on site.
