KABUL, Afghanistan – A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed two insurgents while searching for an Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan facilitator in Khanabad District, Kunduz province, yesterday.
The targeted facilitator is responsible for coordinating suicide attacks throughout the province.
While conducting the operation, the security force was threatened by two armed insurgents. Responding to the threat, the force engaged the two men, killing them.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained a Taliban leader and one of his associates during a security operation in Shah Joy District, Zabul province, yesterday.
The leader provided support to Taliban leaders and fighters in Arghandab District and facilitated movement of foreign fighters. He also trained insurgents to construct roadside bombs and provided guidance to other senior leaders in the province.
During a security operation yesterday in Zharay District, Kandahar province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained one Taliban facilitator. The facilitator was responsible for the movement of narcotics and also assisted in roadside bombs attacks.
Also in Kandahar, an Afghan and coalition combined security force detained several suspected insurgents during a clearance operation in Spin Boldak District, yesterday. The security force conducted the operation to disrupt a Taliban safe haven in the area.
Additionally, in Maiwand District, a combined Afghan and coalition force discovered and seized a drug cache consisting of 220 pounds (100 kgs) of marijuana.
In Nahr-e Saraj, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents during a security operation. The target of the operation was a Taliban leader responsible for daily operations in the area.

Finally, in Zurmat District, Paktiya province, an Afghan and coalition combined security force captured a Haqqani network leader during a security operation yesterday. The leader was responsible for attacks against Afghan National Army checkpoints.
