    KABUL, Afghanistan – A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed two insurgents and detained several more during a security operation targeting a Taliban facilitator and his suicide attack network in Baghlan-e Jadid District, Baghlan province, yesterday.

    The facilitator is responsible for harboring suicide bombers in preparation for an imminent attack on provincial government officials.

    While searching for the leader the security force came across two armed insurgents. As the force approached, the two insurgents attempted to fire their weapons. Responding to the threat, the security force engaged the two men, killing them.

    The security force also detained multiple other suspected insurgents, including the would-be suicide bomber who was to carry out the attack on the provincial government official.

    The force also confiscated a rocket propelled grenade launcher and multiple AK-47 rifles before leaving the area.

    In Kandahar city, Kandahar province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained a Taliban leader and one suspected insurgent yesterday during a security operation. The leader was responsible for overseeing the construction and emplacement of roadside bombs throughout Zhari District.

    An Afghan and coalition combined security force detained multiple suspected insurgents during a security operation targeting a Taliban leader in Nahr-e Saraj District, Helmand province, yesterday.

    The leader directs a Taliban attack cell in Nahr-e Saraj and is responsible for roadside bomb and small-arms attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in central Helmand.

    While searching the area, the security force also discovered 500 pounds of ammonium nitrate along with an explosive making device. The force safely destroyed the explosives and the device before leaving the area.

    East

    In Zurmat District, Paktiya province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Haqqani network leader and one of his associates during a security operation yesterday. The detained leader participated in roadside bomb, indirect fire and direct-action attacks against the Afghan forces.

    Also in Zurmat, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents during a security search for a Haqqani network leader. The leader coordinates roadside bomb and direct-action attacks against the Afghan National Army.
