KABUL, Afghanistan – A combined Afghan and International Security Assistance Force patrol detained more than 10 suspected insurgents during an operation targeting criminal improvised explosive device facilitators in Tarin Kot district, Uruzgan province, Aug. 18.
The detainees were taken in by Afghan Security Forces for further questioning.

A combined Afghan and coalition patrol discovered explosive materials during an operation in Khash Rod district, Nimroz province, yesterday. The operation seized 220 pounds (100 kgs) of ammonium nitrate and precursor materials used to make explosives. The explosive material was safely destroyed on site.
In Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition patrol targeted a criminal improvised explosive device network during a security operation, Aug. 18. The targeted network is known to facilitate the movement of IEDs used against ANSF and coalition forces throughout the province. The operation seized two IEDs that were safely destroyed on site. Two suspected insurgents were detained and taken in by Afghan Security Forces for further questioning.
Also in Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition patrol discovered a drug cache in Now Zad district, today. The cache consisted of 1,984 pounds (900 kgs) of poppy seeds and two pounds (one kg) of opium. During the operation the combined force also discovered 40 pounds (18 kgs) of ammonium nitrate. The drug and the explosive caches were seized by security forces and will be destroyed at a later date.
