KABUL, Afghanistan - A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained a Taliban leader and of one of his associates during a security operation in Marjah District, Helmand province, yesterday.
The leader was responsible for threatening to kill Afghan civilians and conducting attacks against Afghan National Security Forces.

In Burkah District, Baghlan province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained multiple suspected insurgents during a security operation targeting an Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan facilitator, yesterday. The facilitator is responsible for financing IMU attacks and, as one of the head facilitators, he is directly associated with senior IMU leaders based in Pakistan.

A coalition force patrol discovered an improvised explosive device cache in Gardez district, Paktiya province, today. The cache included a 70 pound (32 kg) command-wire improvised explosive device, various IED-making materials and 1,000 pounds (454 kgs) of homemade explosives. The explosive material was seized and will be safely destroyed at a later date.
