FORT STORY, Va. - Twenty-eight Riverine sailors deployed aboard USS Oak Hill Oct. 3 to participate in Amphibious-Southern Partnership Station. The Riverines will conduct exercises with the Colombian navy to increase skills and interoperability and build stronger partnerships.
Riverine Squadron (RIVRON) 3, Detachment 1, deployed with two Riverine Patrol Boats.
“This deployment emphasizes interoperability with the Colombians,” said Lt. Jared McClain, assistant officer in charge, RIVRON 3, Detachment 1. “They (Colombian navy) have a great deal of experience in riverine operations in the jungle, so we’ll learn a lot from them.”
Riverines are a combat arms force that deploy anywhere in the world in support of combat operations to establish and maintain control of rivers and waterways for military and civil purposes. The Riverines are part of Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC), with headquarters at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story.
