KABUL, Afghanistan — A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed multiple armed insurgents and detained numerous suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator in Kajaki district, Helmand province, yesterday.
The facilitator leads subordinate fighters in attacks against helicopters, rocket-propelled grenade, heavy machine gun and roadside bomb attacks. He also directs fighters to attack coalition forces during search operations.
The security force was engaged multiple times with small arms, sniper and mortar fire, responding to the direct threat the security force returned fire, killing the insurgents during the operation.
The security force seized multiple AK-47 assault rifles following the engagement and no civilians were injured during the operation.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during an operation in the Baghlan-e Jadid district, Baghlan province, yesterday. The leader distributed funding and supplies for insurgent activity and conducted attacks against Afghan forces in the region.

A coalition security force discovered an improvised explosive device weapons cache in Shah Joy district, Zabul province, yesterday. The cache consisted of three remote controlled IEDs with a total of 114 pounds (52 kilograms) of homemade explosives, two 82 mm recoilless rifle rounds, and IED making components. The weapons were safely destroyed at the scene by the security force.
In Sherzad district, Nangarhar province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force killed one insurgent and detained multiple suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader, yesterday. The leader operates in both the Sherzad and Khugyani districts and is involved in ambush attacks against Afghan forces. The security force was threatened by several armed insurgents, responding to the direct threat the force engaged, killing the insurgent during the operation.
East
A combined Afghan and coalition security force carried out a precision airstrike in Gomal district, Paktika province, killing two insurgents, yesterday. The target of the operation was an insurgent network leader who plans and conducts attacks against coalition forces in the Sarobi and Orgun districts. The security force conducted a follow-on assessment of the area after the operation and determined no civilians were harmed during the strike.
In Manduzai district, Khost province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained multiple suspected insurgents during an operation in search of an insurgent network leader. The leader plans and participates in attacks against Afghan forces in Khost province.
A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured an insurgent network leader and one additional suspected insurgent during a security operation in Ahmadabad district, Paktiya province, yesterday. The network leader directed insurgents in roadside bomb and suicide attacks.
