KABUL, Afghanistan — A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed one insurgent and detained multiple suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Zurmat district, Paktiya province, yesterday.
The leader constructs and stores roadside bombs and other weapons, and is also responsible for leading insurgent attacks against Afghan forces in both Zurmat and Gardez districts.
During the operation the security force observed an armed individual with an AK-47 assault rifle and grenades, assessing a threat the security force engaged, killing the individual. Multiple rifles and grenades were confiscated during the operation.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents during an operation to disrupt an insurgent network as part of an ongoing operation throughout the week in Khash Rod district, Nimroz province, Tuesday. The security force seized 88 pounds (40 kilograms) of ammonium nitrate and other improvised explosive device components, which were safely destroyed at the scene. The suspected insurgents were detained by Afghan forces for processing and further questioning.
In Qalat district, Zabul province, a combined Afghan and coaltion security force detained two suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader, yesterday. The leader coordinates the placement of roadside bombs throughout the area and plans attacks against coalition forces. Bomb making materials were confiscated by the security force.
A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained multiple suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province, yesterday. The leader acquires heavy munitions for insurgents and plans ambush vehicle attacks throughout Kandahar province.
East
A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Haqqani network facilitator in Pul-e ‘Alam district, Logar province, yesterday. The facilitator plans attacks against coalition forces in the district. The security force confiscated a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, multiple rocket-propelled grenades, two AK-47 assault rifles, several ammunition pouches, and four fragmentation grenades.
In Sayyid Karam district, Paktiya province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Haqqani network leader, yesterday. The leader coordinates roadside bomb attacks in Gardez district.
A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader and detained multiple suspected insurgents during a security operation in Chak-e Wardak district, Wardak province, yesterday. The leader conducted attacks against Afghan forces.
West
A combined Afghan and coalition patrol discovered a weapons cache during a security search in Bala Boluk district, Farah province, yesterday. The cache contained 220 pounds (100 kilograms) of explosives, a mortar system, one heavy machine gun, four rocket-propelled grenades, small arms ammunition, and multiple improvised explosive device components. All of the items were seized by the combined patrol and scheduled for disposal at a later date
