    BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces killed five insurgents and detained five suspected individuals in eastern Afghanistan during operations throughout the past 24 hours, Jan. 10.

    Afghan Uniform Police protected the Provincial Governor of Paktika during an insurgent attack in Sharan District, Paktika province. Three suicide bombers, wearing Afghan National Army uniforms, entered the Paktika communications department building just south of the provincial governor’s compound. They also held eight civilians hostage at gun point. Afghan Uniform Police and ANA soldiers breeched the building killing three insurgents, one of which detonated his suicide vest. Two individuals suspected of helping the insurgents were also arrested.

    A Coalition airstrike killed two insurgents after troops positively identified them emplacing an improvised explosive device in Shinwar District, Nangarhar province.

    Afghan Uniform Police officers detained an individual suspected of kidnapping another individual in Shinwar District, Nangarhar province. After transported to local headquarters for questioning, he admitted being a Taliban commander.

    Afghan National Army troops with 2nd Kandak, 203rd Corps, detained an individual wanted for questioning in Nerkh District, Wardak province. He was transported to a nearby base for questioning.

    Afghan National Army troops arrested one individual recognized as possible objective during operations in Zurmat District, Paktiya province. The detainee was safely transported to a local facility for confirmation.

    Operations in RC-East are still ongoing.
