KABUL, Afghanistan – Security forces launched an operation to capture a senior Haqqani facilitator in Baraki Barak district, Logar province, today.
The Haqqani facilitator is suspected of providing weapons and ammunition to insurgents for a planned attack against Afghan government officials, Afghan security forces and coalition security forces in Kabul City. Additionally, the facilitator has ties to the Pakistan-based leaders of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.
The security force captured several insurgents. No shots were fired and no civilian property was damaged during this operation.

An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban facilitator during an operation in Kandahar district, Kandahar province, Saturday. The facilitator provided weapons, ammunition and equipment to insurgents in Kandahar City and Kandahar district for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The security force also detained one additional insurgent as a result of this operation.
East
An Afghan-led security force captured a Haqqani leader during an operation in Terayzai district, Khost province, yesterday. The leader directed roadside bombings and other attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces throughout Bak district. The security force detained two additional insurgents as a result of this operation.
