Final F-22 delivery ceremony at Air Force Plant 6/Lockheed Martin

    MARIETTA, GEORGIA, UNITED STATES

    05.01.2012

    Story by Capt. Patrick Simmons

    94th Airlift Wing

DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. – The U.S. Air Force will take final delivery of the last F-22 fighter produced by Lockheed Martin in a May 2 event at Air Force Plant 6 (Lockheed Martin).

The Air Force Chief of Staff, Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, will join Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and several other senior Air Force leaders and Lockheed Martin executives as they commemorate the transfer of aircraft ownership to the U.S. Government in a ceremony beginning at 10:55 a.m.

The F-22 Raptor is the Air Force's premier multi-role fighter aircraft. Its combination of stealth, supercruise, maneuverability, and integrated avionics, coupled with improved supportability, represents an exponential leap in warfighting capabilities. The Raptor performs both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions and is designed to project air dominance rapidly and at great distances to defeat threats to United States’ interests.

Following the ceremony, the final F-22 (tail number 4195) will be flown to its new unit at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson near Anchorage, Alaska. Other bases where operational F-22 aircraft are assigned include Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va.; Holloman AFB, N.M.; and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.

The U.S. Air Force is providing a live video feed and webcast of this ceremony through the Defense Video & Imagery Distribution System. A webcast of the ceremony will be broadcast live beginning at 10:45 a.m. the day of the event, and can be accessed at www.dvidshub.net/webcast/2360.

Interested media in covering the F-22 delivery ceremony utilizing a broadcast quality live DVIDS feed should contact DVIDS or Dobbins Air Reserve Base Public Affairs for more information.
